Getting corporate Lindsay McRory October 21, 1996 Wesley McRory When it comes to working in a company environment, there's only so much you can do via e-mail. I didn't feel safe leaving Hakuna Matata in Luperon to fly back for a week of meetings, so the company flew our senior developers down to meet us. Denise bartered a local rate for our guest at an all-inclusive beach resort up the highway. Not wanting to be far from the action we booked ourselves in for a week as well. What a treat. Air conditioned rooms, long hot showers, and all the food and drink we could want. And yes, we did quite a lot of work while taking advantage of the facilities at the resort. We had meetings at the beach, at one of the pools, or even on our balconies. I guess it just isn't right to stay at a beach resort and spend the day in a fluorescent-lit room. There was a television in the room and I was surprised how quickly Kita and Wesley became hooked, wanting to sit in front of it for hours at a time. I was also surprised at how quickly we let them. There were plenty of other things that Denise and I wanted to do, and Kita and Wesley took full advantage of it ... in front of the television. The week ended all too quickly. From a corporate perspective I don't think we could have spent less on the meeting anywhere in the United States or Canada. The flights were all on charters and the local rate at the resort was only $54.00 a day per person, with all the food and drink included. We managed to get some work done as well. Now back aboard Hakuna Matata we are preparing our pre-departure list. With Hurricane Lili tearing up the Bahamas we are not in much of a hurry to leave. At this time, we plan on leaving the first or second week of November.
